Write a First-5-Second Hook for an AI Video

What you will prepare

This is not a click-by-click VMAI UI tutorial. It is a pre-production guide for writing the first-5-second hook before AI video generation. Instead of screenshots, it gives you a reusable writing template you can use before Idea mode or Script mode.

By the end, you will have:

• the problem the first scene should name;
• the promise that gives viewers a reason to continue;
• a caption-length rule for the opening;
• input text you can paste into VMAI;
• a first-scene review checklist before rendering.

Step 1: Write the viewing situation in one line

A hook is not a line that tries to grab everyone. It should make a specific viewer in a specific situation feel, “This is for me.”

Fill in this sentence first.

Examples:

When the viewing situation is clear, the first image, first caption, and narration pace are easier to choose.

Step 2: Choose problem, promise, or change

The first 5 seconds cannot carry everything. Choose one job.

For beginners, the problem hook is usually easiest. It does not need exaggeration; it simply helps the viewer recognize their own situation.

Step 3: Reduce the first line to about 18 words

If the first caption is too long, the hook becomes a reading task. Korean captions can lose rhythm when the sentence gets too long, and English openings often delay the point with qualifiers.

Use this reduction pass.

1. Start with the situation, not a formal introduction.
2. Move the active verb closer to the front.
3. Keep numbers or conditions only if they matter immediately.
4. Move background context to scene two.

Revision:
If the first scene is weak, a good AI video may never be watched.

Shorter is not always better, but in the first 5 seconds, shorter is usually easier to understand.

Step 4: Make image and caption say the same thing

The hook is not only a line of copy. If the first image, caption, voiceover, and music point in different directions, the viewer does not know what to notice.

Use this alignment check.

When you review a generated VMAI draft, use this table before judging whether the scene simply looks nice. The first question is whether the scene performs its opening job.

Step 5: Turn the hook into VMAI-ready input

Once the hook rule is clear, turn it into text you can use in Idea mode or Script mode.

If you start with Idea mode

Do not only enter the topic. Add the first-scene condition.

If you start with Script mode

If a script already exists, separate the first paragraph for review.

This makes the opening easier to edit during script review before it becomes narration, captions, and rendered scenes.

Step 6: Re-watch only the opening before rendering

When you watch the full video, the opening can hide inside the overall flow. Before rendering, review only the first 5 seconds as if they were their own asset.

• Does the first line begin with the viewer's problem or desired change?
• Is the first caption readable in one glance?
• Does the first image support the hook, or is it only decorative?
• Do the voiceover and caption say the same thing?
• Are music, sound effects, or transitions covering the line?
• Does the opening promise connect to the final CTA?
• Does the line avoid guaranteed views, rankings, revenue, or exposure claims?

Keep the last question. A hook should be strong, but it should not sound like a promise of results the video cannot guarantee.
